A verdict is expected later in the trial of a Japanese man accused of killing a British teacher whose body was found in a sand-filled bathtub.
Tatsuya Ichihashi, 32, is accused of murdering Lindsay Hawker, 22, from Brandon, near Coventry, at his home east of Tokyo. He has admitted raping and causing the death of his English teacher but said he did not intend to kill her.
He said he tried to revive Miss Hawker after accidentally suffocating her.
If found guilty, he potentially faces the death penalty.
Miss Hawker's father, Bill, who was allowed to give evidence at the trial, had called for the "heaviest sentence available" to be given.
He said the court should show "no mercy" to Ichihashi because Ichihashi had shown no mercy to his daughter.
